Jon Decker in Steampunk Goggles and green shirtJon Decker is a traveling photographer and writer. He explores the United States, photographing its cities, its people, its culture and landscape, and captures anything strange, unsettling, important or beautiful that he finds. The articles on Grasping @ Creativity focus on the process of creativity and those people or organizations that have inspired Jon through their passion, process, or philosophy.

Jon’s art and writing emerges at the crossroads of beautiful and interesting: his photographs often give the sensation of peering through the looking glass into a different world while his writing attempts to expand his creativity.  With his camera, lenses and imagination, Jon attempts to show the world as he sees it: sometimes dark, sometimes surreal, sometimes vibrant and often unexpected.  A good bit of fiction works its way into Jon’s art, and he enjoys describing new stories that are still waiting to be told in full.

Jon is a generalist, a maker, in both photography and life.  In his free time, he writes, invents, fixes, builds, sculpts, creates, conceptualizes, and seldom stops to question whether any given idea might be possible.  For Jon, most anything is possible if he can take a minute or two to figure out how to do it.  Jon has a unique gift for seeing the world unencumbered by many of its limitations that people take for granted, and an afternoon spent in his company almost certainly leads to new possibilities, and most likely to some fascinating projects or art as well.
